Tropical plants blooming everywhere in the amazingly lush environment of Maui is quite a contrast to the austere desert that surounds us in Rancho Mirage. Surprisingly, we do have lovely birds of paradise in California, but there are a host of varieties growng in Hawaii that we had never seen.
